A LETTER TO YOU
•••••

Dear YOU!

Thanks for stopping by.  My name is Scott and I am a singer, songwriter, actor, student, and activist.  My focus these days has been on singing and on "ProjectSPG," an umbrella name for my efforts in supporting causes I believe in.  This past spring, a friend of mine suggested I watch a couple movies (right).  I did, and they have opened my eyes to a new perspective on the world we live in.  These are unlike any movie/documentary I have seen; in fact, they are better.  Most importantly, they have been the cause of numerous discussions with my friends and family and have sparked a change in the way I conduct my life.

•••••

Have you ever wondered why there is so much poverty, war, greed, stupidity, crazy belief systems, untrustworthy politicians, and debt in the world?  Have you ever considered attempting to do your small part at helping solve one of these problems and found yourself overwhelmed?  Like you were only treating a symptom of what was actually a much more severe disease?

I have been wondering the same things for a long time.  Like you probably have, I've heard the statistic that "one child dies every 5 seconds somewhere by preventable disease or poverty."  But then you think to yourself, "What could I possibly do to change that a little?  This is just too much to think about; I'm just going to take care of myself and my family."

But what if there WAS a solution to all of these problems?  And what if it really WAS possible to be part of a cause that had identified the root problem of all of these horrible things?  And what if you could do 15 minutes every day to help this organization, and see the difference you're making, while still being able to take care of yourself and those you actually know?

Have you ever watched a video or seen a picture of a starving African child and found yourself crying?  And then only minutes later remembering you told your friends you'd meet them for a drink?  You say to yourself, "That video just affected me, but I don't have time to do anything about it."

What if this time, after I show you another one of "those" videos, you stop yourself and say, "Ok, this time I'm not going out for that drink.  My friend Scott told me he saw some movies called Zeitgeist that outlined a way people can WORKABLY change such awful things.  I'm going to check it out."  Keep in mind I'm not "using" this video as propaganda for a "liberal agenda."  I am using this video to propagate an agenda that is not political or part of any New World Order or Illuminati-like cult.  Instead, the movement identifies how lopsided the current social and economic system called capitalism--that we all accept--is.  It says that the fact we allow two billion people to live on  $1 a day and allow armies to kill hundreds of thousands of people should be unacceptable.  That all people ARE equal and DESERVE to have food, clean clothes, and warm shelter.  That we have the means to achieve this because the state of the world's technology has advanced sufficiently.  That not allowing the possibility for more than just a few people to have access to these rights is immoral, unjust, unfair, and ... in today's innovative society, unnecessary.

Promoting Christianity is not a purpose for my posting this video, as it appears may be part of the creators' mission.  Rather, I am a human showing you, another human, a desperately sad but completely preventable reality.

If the video affects you, please have a look at a
proposed solution that wants to help children in need by getting at the root problem that has created this and the majority of other problems keeping our society from bettering itself.

Though it advocates equal rights for all people, this proposal is not communist or fascist or even political at all.  Instead, it identifies our current monetary system as "no longer relevant," and that we have the means to transition to a "resource-based" economy.  It urges a comprehensive survey of the Earth's resources, like food and energy sources, and equal access for all people to these resources.

The organizations behind the proposal are The Zeitgeist Movement and The Venus Project.  As of now I am still a part of "the system" that the movies want to overhaul.  My hope is that in changing myself I can do my part to promote a lifestyle others might find interest in.  If that helps promote the movement in turn, great.  If not, then at least the people I come across in my life might see happiness is possible with much, much less money.

I've been meaning for some time to start a blog.  After watching these movies, I think I will start one and keep a journal of the things they have inspired me to do, the changes I have made and will make to my life.  As the saying goes, "Be the change you wish to see in the world," right?

Oh, and you can also check out other things on here that have less to do with my ProjectSPG and more with my entertainment pursuits. You can watch some of my performances, listen to my music, and purchase my albums (unfortunately the life I've built for myself up to now requires I engage in the commercial world so I can eat!).  Read my bio, sign my guestbook, click on links to my Facebook and Myspace pages... Knock yourself out.

Thanks again,

Scott
